Gautrain – Burnett Street deviation
Bombardier are contracted to the Gauteng Provincial Government to construct the new High Speed Gautrain Rail Line. A section of this new line runs adjacent to the existing Metrorail tracks between Pretoria and Hatfield Stations, a distance of some 7km. In one instance, it was required that a section (approximately 1km of double line) of the Metrorail track had to be deviated to accommodate the new Gautrain line.

To date, turnout no D17 (insert) has carried in excess of 450 million gross tons of coal on the line. Maintenance to the turnout since installation has included over lap grinding on only one occasion and the replacement of the resilient pad, between the rail and beam, at 250 MGT. The local track inspector indicated that the conventional sets required repairs on a three monthly basis while the Tubular sets have only required grinding on one occasion.
